Team Evolution is a modified program specifically for your staff, union and non-union.  The program is eight sessions focusing on interpersonal communication rather than leadership communication. Team Evolution is relevant and includes the level of detail needed to ensure participants are provided with the time, practice, and tools to change their behaviour and communication.

With the modification, we will rework the language and examples throughout to reflect the organization’s industry and culture.

Specific skills the participants learn include:

  • effective communication with an understanding of how others perceive them
  • fostering personal accountability and their responsibility in communicating
  • asserting themselves appropriately by being responsible for their rights and respecting the rights of others throughout the organization
  • resolving conflict
  • professional behaviour with an understanding of their responsibility in creating a positive work culture

The process consists of one 3-hour session per week, extending over 8 weeks. If needed, at no extra cost, private coaching provides the opportunity to work one on one with the facilitator.

By investing in and extending training to include staff, your organization demonstrates its commitment to strengthening communication between management and staff resulting in enhanced team building, increased trust and a positive, pro-active work environment.

Session 1
Communication and Self-Awareness. Personality greatly impacts our communication. The first of three sessions presents the unique opportunity for the course participants to explore and understand the dynamics of their own personality and how that personality affects their style of communication. The participants learn how others perceive them through anonymous 360 degree feedback, most times a surprising revelation. They learn what works and what doesn’t work in their individual communication style. Understanding these fundamentals promotes self-development, more effective interaction with others, and improved communication.

Session 2
Communication Mechanics and Tools. By learning to recognize different types of transactions, the participants obtain an in-depth understanding as to how communication works. Next, they learn proven, practical and highly effective techniques enabling them to recognize and correct negative or undesirable transactions as they occur in the daily work environment. Most importantly, these corrections are accomplished without causing resentment, or by jeopardizing the integrity and credibility of the persons involved. The successes of effective communication are quickly evident to the individual and to the organization.

Session 3
Practical Application of Communication Principles. In the third session, participants apply the principles learned in the first two. The use of real-life situations, such as are faced every day in the workplace, allows experience of every aspect of the communication process. Each participant has the opportunity to present a situation for discussion, analysis, and resolution. Each participant is video taped as they practice and then view the play back for analysis. This gives the participant a unique insight into their communication skills that they rarely see.

Session 4 & 5
Assertion. This session introduces the most misunderstood aspect of communication – assertiveness. Most people have difficulty identifying the difference in passive, aggressive and assertive behaviour let alone dealing with them on a daily basis. By building on the knowledge gained in the first three sessions, the participants develop skills not only to deal effectively with difficult people, but also to gain their cooperation by learning 3 assertive techniques that successfully manage both aggressive and passive behaviours. The participants acquire the tools to divert negative attitudes and behaviours into positive and more productive ones.

Assertion Practice. With clearer, assertive lines of communication open, the participants are given more time to practice and build their skills with conflicts and issues that they are experiencing in the workplace. As in Session 3, the participants use the audio/visual element to support transformational learning. The skills of conflict management and the development of supporting negotiation are perfected in this practical session.

Session 6
Conflict Resolution. The techniques of conflict management and negotiation, coupled with skills learned in the previous sessions, provide the tools and confidence necessary to meet and resolve the challenges and issues met every day in the workplace. Most organizations have a mixture of problem and quality employees. This session teaches participants to resolve personal and professional conflicts with all employees in the organization in the same professional manner.

Session 7
Exercising Personal Accountability. Accountability is often misunderstood in organizational cultures.  This session introduces participants to personal and professional accountability in the workplace helping them to recognize and understand their own expectations of accountability, as well as the broader scope of organizational accountability

Session 8
Feedback Strategies. Effective feedback, using simple communication strategies enables every level of human resources to reach organizational objectives.  Feedback strategies, when used with all the skills learned in the previous sessions, promotes a quality workplace culture, guiding and directing employees and leadership to positive performance and behaviour.
